History Of The Firm

On January 1, 2005, Gus Schram & Co., LTD merged into McElroy, Quirk & Burch.  On July 1, 1991, McElroy, Quirk & Company and Canfield, Burch & Mancuso merged to form McElroy, Quirk & Burch. These combined mergers brought together the four oldest CPA firms in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Canfield, Burch & Mancuso was originally founded in 1925 by Victor Canfield. McElroy, Quirk & Company traces its beginning to the early 1940's when Mr. Charles I. McElroy and Mr. Charles P. Quirk each organized public accounting firms in Lake Charles.  Gus Schram & Co., LTD traces its beginning to the firm of Hollins and Schram which was founded in 1957 by Art Hollins and Gus Schram, Jr.

Our Firm Today

During the firm's many years of existence its growth has been substantial. Presently, it consists of certified public accountants, including directors, principals, degreed professionals. The staff also includes degreed, clerical and administrative support staff.

The firm's office is located in Lake Charles, where it has been located for the entirety of its existence. All directors and staff are residents of Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis Parishes. The directors and licensed staff are licensed to practice public accountancy in the States of Louisiana and Texas.

A Focus On Quality

The firm is a member of both the Center For Public Company Audits and Private Companies Practice Sections of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The Center is a firm-based voluntary membership center designed to promote the high quality of public company audits and to educate and inform member firms and external audiences on issues that impact their public company practice. Additionally, the Center administers the peer review program for non public practices of Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The PCAOB performs peer reviews for the public practice of member firms. 

The firm has successfully completed its fifth independent peer review of its accounting and auditing practice. After thorough study of our procedures and work practices, the reviewers concluded that our firm complies with the stringent quality control standards established by the AICPA.
